As a part of Mayo’s “Bold.Forward.Unbound” expansion project, the Mayo Clinic applied to the City of Rochester for a “street vacation.” When a public right of way is changed to a private right of way, the streets and alleys involved must be legally “vacated.” The vacation application included portions of 3rd and 4th Avenues SW, a portion of 1st Street SW, and some alley connectors. Calvary is most affected by the vacation of the sections of 3rd and 4th Avenues SW to our east and west and the small section of 1st Street SW to our north.

At the City Council meeting on November 18, a public hearing was held so people could comment on the street vacation plan. Calvary supports this application and we submitted a letter to the City in early October reflecting that support. At the City Council meeting, Rev. Beth spoke for approximately 2 minutes as one of the co-applicants to the vacation proposal; the Co-Cathedral of St. John’s being the other co-applicant. The City Council voted at this meeting 6-1 in favor of the street vacation application.
