Calvary Episcopal Church in Rochester, Minnesota, currently has a job opening for those interested in working with a vibrant, faithful, and gracious congregation.
MINISTER OF MUSIC (MOM)
ABOUT US
Calvary Episcopal Church is in the heart of downtown and is the oldest church in Rochester, Minnesota. Across from the world-renowned Mayo Clinic, it is a spiritual oasis for visitors from around the world. Our church is a vibrant, welcoming, and inclusive home to diverse families, couples, and individuals. Our parish life extends to many outreach programs, including those that are public-facing.
ORGANIST, AND MINISTER OF MUSICAL OUTREACH
Calvary Episcopal Church in Rochester, Minnesota, is seeking the right person to be our next Minister of Music, Organist, and Minister of Musical Outreach (MOM). This is a full-time position with salary commensurate with experience, and full benefits.
The MOM will play the organ for Sunday liturgies and Feast Days, and be available for other services like funerals and weddings when possible. They will direct our Adult Motet Choir and restart our children’s and youth choirs, which have been dormant since the COVID-19 pandemic. The church owns a beautiful set of handbells, and there is hope that a handbell choir will be formed in the future.
The MOM will be a senior staff member, reporting directly to the Rector, and work with our small, busy, and creative staff to plan programming, liturgical events, and outreach. It is expected that the MOM and the Rector will create ideas and events together, and work closely with one another to the benefit of Calvary and our neighbors.
Calvary is a neighbor to the Mayo Clinic. Mayo is in the first stages of a $5 billion expansion program that will impact Calvary geographically and programmatically. The MOM will intersect with every area of Calvary – our liturgical music, musical outreach through recitals, education, and ways to include Mayo patients, staff and families in the musical life of Calvary. They will intersect with our liturgy, children’s programming, stewardship, and fellowship activities. This is an exciting time for Calvary and there is great potential in partnering with the Mayo Clinic in arts and musical outreach. The right person for this position will be someone who is energetic, outgoing, skilled, and creative.
The candidates for this position should understand this process as a Call process, with the expectation of this as a spiritual discernment. Knowledge of the Episcopal liturgy and Anglican choral history and practice are required, although the candidate does not need to be a member of the Episcopal Church.
The position is available immediately.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree minimum
Type: Full Time
Reports to: Rector
Salary and Benefits: The salary range follows guidelines for education and experience. Benefits include health insurance, continuing education, and vacation.
If you are interested in applying, please submit your resume, information about education, experience, recitals, and other items of interest to the Rector, the Rev. V. Beth Royalty at rector@calvary-rochester.org. The deadline for application is January 22, 2025.
