Beloved in Christ:
Sarah Hoffmeister Stender joined Calvary right after Pentecost as our Interim Director of Music. She graciously agreed to stay on past her original agreement, but this Sunday, October 2, is her final Sunday with us. As most of you know, she is expecting her third child, and while the baby’s due date is November 1, she needs just a little time to prepare! Sarah and her husband John’s newest child will join two others already at home. It has been such a joy and pleasure to have Sarah here among us, leading our music, playing for a few funerals, and directing the Motet Choir. We will miss her very much and wish her and John and their growing family every blessing. We will be recognizing Sarah and thanking her during the 10:30 service. Next up for this position? As the Search Committee for the next Director of Music continues their work, our fellow parishioner and Motet choir member Jeff Daehn has agreed to be our next Interim DOM and organist. Calvary is enormously blessed to have Jeff here and to be able to receive his huge gifts for music and direction. Thanks to Jeff and his wife Dawn for stepping into this new role for a season.
Some other things happening this Sunday – we welcome guest preacher Dan Miglets-Nelson. Dan is the Episcopal Church in Minnesota Minister for Children and Youth Formation. Dan was here with Bishop Loya a couple of weeks ago and he has already connected with members of our Vestry who are working on plans for children and youth at Calvary. Dan will stay for the parish picnic – he will even be one of our judges in the pie competition! And then finally, the Parish Picnic! Over 120 people have registered – if you find that you can attend and have not yet registered, don’t let that keep you away – let us know via the office@calvary-rochester.org email and we will find you a sandwich! The sun will be shining and the fall garden will be gorgeous – come and connect, eat, enjoy some pie (and bring one for the contest), enjoy good music and connect with friends and family. Not to be missed!
In gratitude and joy,
Beth+
